"Screen Time" is Just "Time"

Friday, January 22, 2016

In her article, "Beyond Screen Time: Insights on Using Digital Media with Young Children," SRI International researcher Savithy Moorthy examines how the latest research from EDC and SRI can inform discussions of this important topic. Findings from a joint study of public media resources—specifically, the PEG+CAT show from PBS—highlighted positive outcomes for parents and children who engaged with the resources over a 12-week period.

"The study findings coincide with profound shifts in how people are thinking and talking about young children's use of digital media," writes Moorthy, who also quotes the position of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Fred Rogers Center: "When used wisely, technology and media can support learning and relationships.”
