Social Software and Multimedia for Literacy Instruction
Nov 29-2 2006

At the 2006 annual meeting of the National Reading Conference (Nov.29-Dec.2), Deputy Director Cornelia Brunner and senior researcher Naomi Hupert discussed how digital media has extended the concept of literacy to include text as well as images, sound and video at a paper session on Social Software and Multimedia for Literacy Instruction. Brunner and Hupert presented a website developed by CCT to help teachers make sense of multimedia's relationship to literacy, both how it can be described and taught, as part of their paper Supporting Digital Literacy Skills in the Classroom: Findings from the Skills for the 21st Century Project (co-authored by senior researcher Shelley Pasnik). In addition to presenting, Naomi led the paper session.
