Human Rights Watch Film Festival Curriculum Project
1993 to 1994

Together with Human Rights Watch International Film Festival (HRWIFF), three alternative high schools, and an afterschool program in New York City, CCT explored the needs of teachers experimenting with complex human-rights-related materials in a small pilot study generously supported by the Open Society Institute. The goals of the pilot program are:

  • To develop and sustain a human rights curriculum in high schools through film, video, and direct access to the filmmakers themselves
  • To create film guides that support important and sometimes difficult conversations in ways that engage young people to respond critically to human rights concerns
  • To demonstrate how artistic expression can shape societal awareness.
