Ma Victoria (Mia) Almeda leads research that leverages large-scale data to provide insights about education policies and practices related to STEM learning in K–12 classrooms. She also examines how district responses to COVID-19 school closures relate to math achievement in middle school using national interim assessment data.

Almeda’s experience and expertise include quantitative research using descriptive, randomized controlled trials and machine learning techniques and qualitative research using design-based research methods. She pursues an array of interests, such as exploring how games and other digital learning technologies promote persistence and computational thinking in young children.

Almeda holds a PhD in Cognitive Science and an MS in Neuroscience from Columbia University and a BA in Psychology from Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. She is proficient in English and Filipino.
