Making Projects, Making Relationships with IDEAS

In “Making On and Off the Spectrum!,” in the latest edition of Connected Science Learning, CCT researchers Wendy Martin and Regan Vidiksis, with colleagues Kristie Patten Koenig and Yu-Lun Chen, discuss findings from the IDEAS project, which studied a “maker” program in autism inclusion middle schools.
Because people often socialize around their interests, providing youth on the autism spectrum with opportunities to pursue their interests alongside peers can help them realize that things they care about may connect them to others, rather than isolating them.
