After reviewing and rating hundreds of learning tools over the past year, the editors of Common Sense Media's Graphite platform selected 30 that demonstrated excellence in engagement, pedagogy, and support. We're happy to say that work from two of our projects—Next Generation Preschool Math ("Gracie & Friends Birthday Cafe") and Possible Worlds—were chosen for this list. The editors cited the "precise focus and superb scaffolding" of "Gracie & Friends Birthday Cafe," while recognizing Possible Worlds for "[e]ntertaining, well-researched games [that] correct scientific misconceptions."
"Gracie & Friends Birthday Cafe" is the first of a series of preschool math games developed with First 8 Studios and our partners WGBH and SRI, International. More games are being developed and released, and all are available free on the Apple App Store.
The Possible Worlds website presents free games, resources, and research created by our five-year, IES-funded national research and development center on instructional technology. These materials are designed to address persistent scientific misconceptions of middle-school students.
