CCT at Maker Faire Workshop

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

CCT researchers Naomi Hupert and Terri Meade will participate in an invitational workshop "Innovation, Education, and the Maker Movement" at World Maker Faire on September 26-27. The workshop will take place at the New York Hall of Science, and will feature Tom Kalil, Deputy Director for Policy at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Dale Dougherty, general manager of the Maker Media division of O'Reilly Media and founder of the Maker Faire festivals.

Four questions will be addressed at the workshop:

* How can the creativity and ingenuity that is core to the Maker/DIY movement be used to support learning, particularly in STEM fields, in K-12 and CTE education?

* What kinds of collaborations might be developed in collaboration with the Maker/DIY movement that could inspire innovation in STEM learning in formal and informal sectors?

* How do you see the relevance of the Maker community to your areas of expertise and interests?

* Where do opportunities exist for facilitating collaborations between Makers and potential sources of private and philanthropic funding?
