Skills for the 21st Century: Supporting Digital Literacy in the Classroom
2003 to 2006

Teachers wishing to foster digital literacy in their classrooms and states wishing to demonstrate it in their students face a common challenge: no comprehensive, established approach exists to guide the teaching, learning, and assessment of specific digital literacy skills. CCT has worked to address this challenge through a two-year project, funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies, to develop a Digital Literacy Toolkit that articulates the skills comprising digital literacy and helps schools and districts implement a new approach to digital literacy teaching.

For the project, we built web-based resources for teaching and assessing digital literacy at the classroom level. We also designed professional development resources to support the integration of these tools into classroom practice and conducted an evaluation study to determine the toolkit's effectiveness.
