Marcia is a researcher focusing on how media and digital resources support education, intergenerational learning, and informal STEM learning. Her primary interests involve intergeneration learning, family engagement, informal STEM learning, STEM career pathways, and cultural relevance in STEM.

Marcia supports the Ready To Learn project, a U.S. Department of Education-supported initiative led by PBS and CPB that investigates how public media can support and engage children and their caregivers around STEM and intergenerational interactions. Another of her projects is the NSF-funded Integrating Science with Mathematics and Engineering: Linking Home and School Learning for All Young Learners, which extends the Next Generation Preschool Science project. This project aims to bridge the science, engineering, and math learning that happens at preschool with learning experiences at home, as well as to make the resources accessible to Spanish-speaking families. Finally, she is also part of the Cyberchase Mobile Adventures in STEM  team, where she supports the development of an informal family learning program that sends weekly media and learning activities to parents’ phones.

Prior to joining CCT, Marcia directed the community engagement initiative NYSCI Neighbors at the New York Hall of Science. In this role, she developed accessible and relevant informal STEM programs and activities to invite and build trusting relationships with the local Corona, Queens community. Her approach was to focus and build on the community’s assets and funds of knowledge to connect STEM to everyday life and demystify content. Marcia holds a BS in Computer Science from NYU-Tandon School of Engineering.
