NEARStar Evaluation
2004

NEARStar offers a beginning reading program created for elementary English language learners. The program currently serves students of Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Island, and other ethnic groups from high-poverty, non-English language backgrounds. In school year 2003-2004, NEARStar was delivered to 68 schools, serving over 7,582 English language learners and 826 teachers in grades K-6.

CCT conducted formative research for Scholastic, Inc., on a software product created for English language learners in the lower grades. CCT researchers observed how children interact with the software program and interviewed teachers to find out how they view the student software program, its teacher resources, and how they might use it in their classrooms.
