PBS US Olympic Cyber School
1998

The U.S. Olympic PBS Cyber School, powered by IBM, offered interactive educational challenges that use the Olympic events of skiing, snowboarding, and figure skating to teach kids about math, science, and history. For example, students build a model of the Grand Slalom course in order to study the effects of friction on speed, using the Internet to research the challenge and to present their findings. Each challenge had sections for students, tip areas, and details on what constitutes excellent performance when answering the challenge. The challenges also provide background information on lesson logistics and implementation preparation, academic standards, and extension possibilities for teachers.

CCT evaluated approximately 80 teacher-prepared challenges to ensure that they make effective use of the technology and are pedagogically sound.
