SeaTrek Distance Learning Evaluation Study
2003

In this project, we evaluated Mote Marine Laboratory's SeaTrek Distance Learning Project. For the past six years the SeaTrek Distance Learning Program has delivered science instruction to students in grades 4 - 8 throughout Florida, using interactive video conferencing, a supporting science curriculum, technology training (for both teachers and students) and a related Web site. The program, which today serves 49 schools across Florida, seeks to spark student interest in science and communicate information about real-world research and conservation work at Mote.

Our researchers examined the program's overall usability, the relevance of its instructional materials, and the effectiveness of its live presenters, technology tools and infrastructure in increasing student perceptions of science as an engaging discipline and student reaction to inquiry-based learning approaches.
