ThinkQuest New York City Pilot Evaluation
2002

ThinkQuest NYC is an outgrowth of the worldwide ThinkQuest competition, in which young people work in teams and with the support of adult mentors to create educational Web sites. Through the program, young people develop advanced technology skills, gain knowledge in specific subjects, learn valuable interpersonal skills and discover a connection to the world beyond their communities. ThinkQuest NYC brings the challenges and benefits of the program to inner-city youth, who are typically underrepresented at the competitions. A collaboration between ThinkQuest and the Center for Development at the City College of New York, this pilot involved teachers and students from six New York City Public School districts and took place from January through August 2002. We evaluated the project's effectiveness in meeting established goals, drawing from the experiences of the teachers and students in the spring semester.
