Projects
CCT continued its partnership with the Library of Congress, examining teacher and student learning around the Library's online archives of primary source materials, the American Memory collections. This project, which built on a host of prior work with the Library dating back to 1995, was an evaluation of teacher professional development workshops being run across the country. Each of 24 'Adventure of the American Mind' partner institutions (often schools of education) was training local classroom teachers in the use of primary resources from the Library of Congress. CCT researchers studied the application and impact of these workshops and resources through a survey, interviews, and site visits as well as online exercises designed to capture student thinking with documents. Results of the work helped the Library and its partners plan their continuing outreach to educators, and contribute to growing scholarship about the components of effective history teaching and learning.
