Robert Spielvogel directs the division of Applied Research and Innovation (ARI) at Education Development Center (EDC), a not-for-profit company working worldwide in education, health, and human development.

As ARI director, Bob manages and supports the leadership teams of three EDC centers, the Center for Children and Technology (CCT), the Center for Online Professional Education (COPE), and the Northeast and Islands Regional Laboratory (REL-NEI). He also directs business development activities related to the division's centers. Bob also continues to provide supervision of EDC's technology resource and infrastructure planning, part of his role as Chief Technology Officer for EDC.

Bob's project work at EDC has involved designing and conducting a wide range of evaluations and design assistance for formal and informal educational systems that utilize technology to improve teaching and learning.

Prior to joining EDC, Mr. Spielvogel was the Executive Director of Public Broadcasting System (PBS)'s Learning Link online network, Vice-President for New Business Development for the U.S. affiliate of the Canadian Nabu Network, a cable-based software delivery system, and education and entertainment editor for Time, Inc.'s cable delivered software service.

His earlier work involved software development based on cognitive development principles for Citibank, Time-Life Books, and Open Court Publishing. In addition, he has taught graduate courses in software design and evaluation. Prior to his work in information and communications technologies, Mr. Spielvogel was an elementary school principal and a classroom teacher.
