Writing the City, a website developed by Teaching Matters, enables middle-school English language arts teachers to quickly and safely publish their student's writing in an online eZine format, privately for just their class and parent community or generally for the public. Through the site, students get an opportunity to share their work with a wider audience. CCT is conducting a three-year evaluation of the program.
As part of the evaluation, CCT will interview teachers and students as well as conduct classroom observations to document participant experiences with Writing the City and examine the impact of the program on teachers and students. Through this research, CCT will provide feedback to Teaching Matters on how to improve the quality of the program for its participants, and to help Teaching Matters make informed decisions about the near-term and long-term directions of Writing the City.
