National survey finds parents are dissatisfied with technology in schools
Nov 2 2009
When considering the use of technology in schools, it's important to first determine what skills or content knowledge students must learn and master and how the use of such tools will aid that progression, said Shelley Pasnik, director of Education Development Center Inc. 's Center for Children and Technology . Using technology for the sake of using technology is not always the best use of school district funds, she added. "Schools are complex environments and learning is complex and messy," Pasnik said. "For some teachers, for example, technology is a great way to give a better lecture; and for others it's a great way to really break down the classroom's wall and explore, and have kids pose questions about the world they live in," said Pasnik, who was not involved in the study.
